The FIAC is our major modern-contemporary art Fair. Nothing like Basel or New York, but even so it’s a huge event. What I like about it, is there are so many installations outside of the Grand Palais. The Tuileries Gardens, The Jardin des Plantes, the Place Vendome and this year quite a few will be installed on the quais or in a new and desolate centre opposite the Gare d’Austerlitz. The week proceeding the FIAC, obviously the installations are set up in each spot. I saw the first two party completed in the Tuileries Gardens last week and yesterday walked through again. It’s rather like a dress rehearsal - you don’t see the finished article - lights, fountains etc. but you do get an idea of what it will be about.
It was wonderful to see that AI WeiWei was back after his years in prison in China. I’ll be seeing exhibitions of his in London and in Finland later in the month. But here we had his Circle of Animals / Zodiac Heads, 2010. I hope you can find your sign. I circled the large central pond so all could be taken.

Walking a little further I came across this. Ernest T. He is a French (Belgium I think) artist who does a lot of caricatures which I guess this will be when the crowds take their photographs….it’s called Trombinoscope and was done in 2015.
Quite often those who stroll through parks don’t even see a new installation. I think this maybe the case with Angela Bulloch’s « Heavy Metal Stack of Six » completed in 2014. She is Canadian and best known for her "pixel boxes," easy to program illuminated boxes.
Back to the main alleyway and here we are with Smil Radic and Marcel Correa’s work « Boy Hidden in a Fish » 2010. Smil is a Chilean architect, apparently quite well known, but not to me and Marcel is a Spanish Industrial designer. People just walked past and didn’t even give it a second glance.
I like this. « Rayons » done this year by Xavier Veilhan. Yes you have seen his work. He’s French and I discovered him with his outside « horse » installation in Versailles in 2009.
Back to the main ally and this installation was still undergoing « set-up ». Adrien Missika « Ciudad Jardin », 2015. He’s French born but lives and works in Berlin.
You can see the backs of people but no-one seems to be taking any interest!
Antony Gormley - an English sculptor who I really do like.
« Big Spin", 2014 and « Big Look », 2014. I guess the first one is Big Spin but for the moment it is not indicated.
"Image Object Tuesday 20 January 2015 4:24pm, 2015". What a strange title. The artist is Artie Vierkant. Very young, only 29 and from Chili.
Now I knew where all the people were. Looking at this rather delicate installation in the pond closest to the Louvre. I didn’t stay until the end but will be back to see who it is….
Here is a list of all the works to be shown in the gardens. It’s long and for the opening later in the week, it must be finished! Adrien Missika
