THE DRESS REHEARSAL IN THE TUILERIES GARDENS
The FIAC is our major modern-contemporary art Fair. Nothing like Basel or New York, but even so it’s a huge event. What I like about it, is there are so many installations outside of the Grand Palais. The Tuileries Gardens, The Jardin des Plantes, the Place Vendome and this year quite a few will be installed on the quais or in a new and desolate centre opposite the Gare d’Austerlitz. The week proceeding the FIAC, obviously the installations are set up in each spot. I saw the first two party completed in the Tuileries Gardens last week and yesterday walked through again. It’s rather like a dress rehearsal - you don’t see the finished article - lights, fountains etc. but you do get an idea of what it will be about.
It was wonderful to see that AI WeiWei was back after his years in prison in China. I’ll be seeing exhibitions of his in London and in Finland later in the month. But here we had his Circle of Animals / Zodiac Heads, 2010. I hope you can find your sign. I circled the large c
