HE MAY BE FAMOUS BUT NOT KNOWN TO ME.......
The first thing I ready about Richard Tuttle is that he is universally known and respected. So, I must be one of the spectators who is ignorant as I have never heard of him.
Richard Dean Tuttle (born 12 July 1941) is an American post-minimalist artist known for his small, subtle, intimate works. His art makes use of scale and line. His works span a range of media, from sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, and artist’s books to installation and furniture. He lives and works in New York City, Abiquiú, New Mexico, and Mount Desert, Maine.
That is what I dragged off Wiki.
I would hardly call this monumental material installation minimalist. However, I did quite like it.
This installation is called « I Don’t Know . The Weave of Textile Language », and is a newly commissioned sculpture which combines vast sways of fabrics designed by the artist from both man-made and natural fibres in three bold and brilliant colours. I am ignorant too as why the installation has that name.
There are other exhibitions on of his in London. It would be worthwhile knowing a little more but not this trip around.
