After an excellent lunch in the Beaux Arts café, I went into the permanent collection. The wonderful part about visiting such collections in other museums rather than those you know so well, is the discovery of an artist's palette. In Chapter 4, we will be seeing a «palette» of Picasso work in the MOMA in New York. In the Fine Arts museum I was interested to see that there was a small but well represented collection. I did not start with the impressionists but went straight to the 20th century.
It’s always a pleasure to see Karen Appel, Fernand Leger and Picasso. But that was all that really caught my attention before going downstairs to the contemporary section. Once again, I was virtually alone and could wander through the space, take photographs and see these huge galleries at a distance.

Giuseppe Pennone Grand Geste vegetal 1986 |
Guiseppe Penone gave me a a very
different slant on his work. I have seen a lot of it in Italy and also a
small exhibition in Beaubourg in 2004. Everything based on trees and
nature.

Folkert de Jong- Horse 2003 |
So did the Dutchman Folkert de Jong. I
have always found his sculptures somewhat macarbe although have been
told that they are tongue in cheek. Am not so sure and then I saw
this.......

View with the Stella |
Frank Stella, who I have always
considered to be a minimalist and better known for his black paintings
although there is a lot of abstraction too I had not seen anything of his like this
before.
Riopelle too was very different from what I had seen the day before.

Aaron Curry - Little Minator 2009 |
Aaron Curry (American) is a collagist for me and here I discovered a sculpture.
These are enriching moments and tell me how much I know and how little at the same time.
But now before New York, let's have a drink and a comfortable seat.......
