Now up to the next floor to see the Malevich.
In actual fact I should have started there as the crowds were much thicker than I had anticipated. I know his work and could add, quite well - but where on earth did I see a big exhibition of his in recent years? That could not be solved until I got back to Paris.
Having a Blog is an excellent memory aid and as I thought, I had seen a retrospective of his work in Amsterdam « From Matisse to Malevich » in January 2012. Re-reading the chapter made me wonder what I could add.
The set out was very different, following his work from an early age. Whereas in the exhibition I had seen in Amsterdam, it was difficult to enter into his geometric design. This time I found it much easier although my previous comments on his modern icon, « The Black Square » are still the same. It may have been a totally new approach to his work which he now called Suprematism, but I still don’t really get the point.

There is one painting which always makes me smile as it reminds me of a cork-screw that I have. « Head of a Peasant » done in 1929-90.

Nearly all the paintings I saw in Amsterdam where in London and yet, the fact that they were displayed differently and in a different context, became new discoveries. I enjoyed his work just as much as I had two years ago. Some however were new or nice to see again.

Every café or restaurant was packed even though it was certainly late for lunch. There were still a few hours to go before taking the Eurostart so I walked toward the London Bridge and fell upon the Borough Market. It didn’t look much from the outside, yet it was a load of fun.

After a quick tour around I bought myself a glass of prosecco and strolled by the different stalls admiring the set up, picking up bits of cheese and sausage like all the rest of them. Just enjoying the ambiance before taking my tra
in for home.
