SHARING WITH ME

There were other collections and other small exhibitions that I took in but when looking at the photos a week and more after the events, I was quite obviously close to saturation. But there was one  museum I had to do and that was the Old Pinacothèque for Marielle. I had heard of the Bosch and Bruegel collection and there were some Rubens and Rembrandt to see too. These Masters I don’t get tired of and as they  not too much religion based, I cope quite well. As I said before, the periods before the Renaissance I’m quite comfortable with (not all but….) - it’s later and the 18th and 19th I get a little sick of. 

Here is just a collection of what I enjoyed - taking into consideration that this museum is huge and I was wandering through it and not stopping too often…….. From a little way off I saw this…..a large installation which looked a little like a wall of paw marks. Intriguing….so over I went. 

David Shrigley (1968-)  came to International fame though his cartoon like drawings which appeared in newspapers and magazines. I am sure he is well known but when I got back I asked some of my English friends if they knew his work….no they didn’t. That does not matter. What I like immensely is that his work is minimalist, rather like children’s drawings focusing on the banalities and misunderstandings of everyday life. At times it’s disarming but there is certainly a lot humor there. He works and lives in Glasgow, has won a few important awards but this was the first major solo exhibition in a German museum. I was off for opening time at the Modern Pinacothèque. The description that I had read on Internet was « 4 museums in 1 ». Modern, Graphics, Architecture and Design. I had a day to take all this in - if I needed to - but what was the most important was the Kirchner. This was titled  »Farbenmensch« Kirchner (Man of Colours)? Kirchner « I can’t work rationally. I’m too much a colour man (Farbenmensch) for that" Ernst Ludwig Kirchner From the description again, there were only 19 paintings which after yesterday would be easier to manage. If anything it would be describing his painting techniques and that was something I looked forward to discovering. The findings of the university research provide a new insight into the creative process behind Kirchner’s major works such as "Circus","Dance School" and "Self-Portrait as a Sick Man".
