THE MAN WITH FIVE SKINS

Image
What a pleasure to meet up with Laurent and go to an exhibition. This time it was «In the Skin of Hunterwasser» at the Musée en Herbe.  The exhibition This is mainly a childrens’ centre (why I guess that I have never visited it) where they are able to learn and create their own world. When we arrived, there was a group of very young children. I suppose around 4 or 5 years old. Laurent and I went in and the chidren were there straight after us. The age groups visiting the museum are from 3-103 years. Adding our ages, we just made it. The exhibition may invite children to express their own creativity but somehow it seemed a little too sophisticated to me. Especially the title «The Painter-King with five skins».  The painting itself seemed close to Aloise whom I had seen in Lausanne ( see Blog chapter "Two Days of Weath and colour" - 7th October 2012 )   Even in a strange way Seraphine and her work which I do like. Somehow I think tha...

LOOKING AT OUR FUTURE

Image
This is an event which I had spoken to a few people about? If they had seen it  their response was «bof» - or in other words, not really interesting. Fortunately we do not stop at negative or unenthusiastic replies when the content could be interesting for us. Indeed it was. The EDF Foundation (our main energy supplier) sets up quite a few fascinating events aimed «at the future». Not so long ago many of these projects would have been described as «laughable» but today many of them are moving towards materialisation while still holding onto the promise of imagination and design in shaping our collective futures. They are ambitious and the ideas are full of optimism. Too often I have heard «it’s too new, it wont work. He or she was before his/her time»....Now intuition is at work and insight as well. In many of cases the projects are the results of scientific collaboration. Some of the work is radical, perhaps not quite believable but I admire this way of thinking as we need it if w...

BERLIN - BURSTING WITH ENERGY AND ELEGANCE

Image
There have been many business trips to Berlin but none I remember when I actually walked around the city. This was to be different. I was meeting up with perhaps my oldest friend who was there from Australia. A Berliner. What I do remember are the university lectures I gave for years on «International Distribution of Cosmetics». Berlin I knew for its major shopping centres and that since the war it was a city under construction. It still is. Perhaps not as I remember it but now that the east and west have joined the number of buildings being put up or pulled down is still awesome.  A New ministry All over the place Over to the Parliment How do I get to the other side? And more construction Inside G.L. KaDeWe - the largest department store was still as chic as ever. Now there was a Galeries Lafayette and inside it is unmistakable.  I had chosen a hotel in the Eastern part, a few minutes walk from Checkpoint Charlie. There is this extraordinary ...
